The inspiration for Beach Yoga Jewelry is simple.
A group of friends in an active yoga community enjoying daily yoga practice
in
a
tranquil Caribbean setting. I try to capture the images around me.
The goal of my work is to depict the dynamics of the postures that
we experience
every day. Friends model for each piece of jewelry.
First we have a photo session,
to study the proportions of the figure.
From the photos I then make conceptual drawings of the pose. Jewelry
has to be small in its scale, so it can’t hold all the details that a piece
of sculpture would. As I reduce the size I try to retain the essence of each
asana. It is also a fun challenge to incorporate gem stones into the artwork.
Next, the piece goes to the work bench where the drawing takes shape as
a wax carving. Using the “lost wax” casting method the carving will
be cast in gold and silver. I try to imagine each piece being a small
sculpture that can be carried as inspiration through the day.
After the piece is cast, it is polished and the lines are refined further.
The stones are set and it is made ready to wear. In the final stage
the model tries on the jewelry image for size.
Now you can browse in our on-line catalog and
choose from among these individually inspired jewelry pieces, to
wear one of your own or to give a truly unique gift to a loved one.
